I just wanted to pop in and say hello while I'm neck deep and thoroughly consumed with working on the SS12 collection! I figured this might be a good time to let you all know about some big changes happening around these parts. Hopefully it'll be less "WTF, where did this come from?!" keeping you all abreast this way.

First off, it'll likely come as no surprise, but starting with the upcoming SS12 collection, my products will no longer be handmade. I really want to see this little business of mine grow and I'm at a point where I can just no longer keep up with demand while maintaining my sanity whilst sewing everything myself. I'm just so darned burned out sewing soooo many garments (mind you, this is certainly not a complaint!!). This said, all of my goods will indeed remain lovingly and impeccably made in Brooklyn, however. I've found a wonderful manufacturer right in the heart of Greenpoint who I'm super excited to work with.

Next up, as I've mentioned a few times already, I'm gettin' in on the textile racket finally! It was a heck of a lot of work designing my own textiles for the first time (my hat goes off to you Jennifer & Ellen!) but it's definitely the direction I want to go in. I feel like I've finally managed to bring all of my skills to the table in doing this. As soon as I get some sample yardage back from the printer, promise there will be some sneak peaks!

Lastly, there's gonna be jewelry too! Big, chunky, bold brass goodness. I'm not so entirely sure about this direction but it's something I've been playing with and I'm super curious to see how you guys dig it.

So there you have it! You now know what's in store. Can't wait to share once it's all complete. :)

I hope that after this I'll be able to provide you all with a bit more consistency instead of throwing a million new things out there all out once!

Em & I did some more marbling this past weekend - on paper for the first time oddly enough - with a mind to turn these into textiles, which I could then digitally reproduce for the SS12 collection. Good chance you'll be seeing one of these guys on a garment pretty soon!

I know it's been quiet around these parts lately. Since I got back from the holidays, it's been a mad scramble to get orders out the door while also gearing up for SS12!

Now that I'm finally done with school (whoo!whoo!), I can really begin to take this line in the direction I've always wanted to take it, **doing my own textiles.** I worked as an editorial illustrator for years so this really feels like I'm finally coming full circle. It's been such an exciting process, albeit pretty damn frustrating at times. I've gotta say I'm pretty nervous about it all, however! Nervous that the designs will print alright and even more nervous that you all will like them!

In the meantime, I hoarded so many insane *goodies from all my favorite designers over the holidays that a little sharing is definitely in order real soon!

In my family, we do love our tacky hanukkah ornaments. Now that my brother & I are both long out of the house, the parents don't do it up like they used to but I still love it.

And here's the a wonderful 2012 for everyone! For me, 2011 was one heck of a whirlwind year full of big decisions and changes and I can't thank you all enough. That thanks goes out wholeheartedly to everyone who's supported me over the past year, anyone who may have purchased any of my work or even just said a kind word. Every bit of it means the world to me. Now let's all get out our fancy pants party clothes and ring in 2012 the *right way cause it's gonna knock the socks off 2011!

This first batch is fresh from the caster so they're still completely raw and need a good deal of cleaning up, but I wanted to share them anyway as I'm pretty psyched about these guys. Sooooo, I've finally decided to take the manufacturing plunge! I'll be doing a little test run for the holidays, producing a handful of Samet Dresses and Samet Shirts.

Not to worry folks, everything will be done right here in Brooklyn working with the wonderful folks from In God We Trust in Greenpoint. So you can rest assured that a lot of love is still very much going into your garments. :)

That said, I'm currently accepting wholesale pre-orders until monday as I can finally tackle some larger orders now.

And not to be a tease or anything but I have to say that the Holiday Collection is coming along rather swimmingly! The official release should be sometime in early November in order to give me enough time to have everyone's orders filled by the holidays.

The lovely Sarah from WENVRSLEEP contacted me awhile back to see if she could pull a couple of pieces for her upcoming lookbook. Already a huge fan of her work I was pretty psyched!

It was so great to meet Sarah and hear all about the shoot afterwards - we even ran for an impromptu drink, me in my pjs, trench coat wrapped tightly around (she in some gorgeous Ermie I couldn't stop pawing)....She and Dustin, her photographer, are just the most wonderful people. It was exciting to learn all about her process! So many historical references! And here's the kicker, Sarah works in historic preservation! So nice to be able to have a conversation with someone that veers from blog stuff, to fashion, to the joys of federal architecture. :)

Her lookbook really came out quite stunning didn't it. The new collection is incredible (the necklace featured with the Samet Shirt is most definitely at the top of my jewelry wishlist). And as if it couldn't be any more awesome, the shoot features some amazing Ermie as well. Heaven.

I just got these gorgeous pieces from Caroline!

I always loved her work but once she began to explain to me her process, I was even more enamored. Caroline handcrafts every single piece that goes into her jewelry, even things like tubes that she could just as easily purchase ready made. To her, it's simply a matter of pride and I totally get and appreciate that.

I'm already plotting future BRVTVS acquirements...

And the little box at the bottom is not BRVTVS, but a nice little hand painted wooden box I picked up at the Brooklyn Flea this summer (for $6!) where these lovelies now reside. I felt it was quite blog worthy in it's own right. :)

Boy is this post long time coming! Fact is, I HATE being in front of the camera and compound that with the fact that I spend 99% of my time make-up less and in ratty work clothes...So Jed decided to play photographer and posed me because otherwise I would have just stood there awkwardly with a 'deer-in-the-headlights' look on my face....I was pretty on the fence as to whether or not to crop my face out but decided that I actually don't look half bad in this pic so why not?! So yepper, that's me. :)

So this is me in my beloved and already well worn ERMIE scarf that Jennifer sent me as the most generous gift in the world as thanks for a book I sent her awhile back. She also sent me some gorgeous remnants I can't wait to play with! I'm so impressed with how nuanced and rich Jennifer's textiles are in person (can I even begin to express how much I'm looking forward to her FW collection?!).

My Big O'l Pot

A heads up! FW11 will finally be in the shop Wednesday the 13th if all goes according to plan. Fingers crossed everything goes according to plan (no more hurricanes, yeah?)...

In the meantime, have a gander at the massive 12 gallon stock pot I hauled home for dying fabric. I got it at a restaurant supply store! I used to use fiber reactive dyes but found that I wasn't getting the desired results with them this time so I switched over to Acid Dye, which requires simmering to work, however.

So yes, I've been slaving over this gargantuan stock pot fulling of boiling fabric and dye for the past month in 90 degree weather so when the collection debuts next week, KNOW that there was indeed real sweat that went into those puppies (but not to worry, the fabric was all washed post sweating and dying!)! Not to totally ruin the appeal of what's to come or anything...

Em & I did a little ring carving on Monday. Not sure if anything we did will ultimately make it to be cast but it was fun nonetheless.

Dusen Dusen FW11

More FW11 goodness! My god, it's all too much, too much! My poor wallet is crying because I spent every last dime to my name on fabric and now I can't buy any of these totally lady-like silhouettes from Dusen Dusen... :(

She also just did a collab with Urban Outfitters. I'm generally not a fan of the place but I'll make an excuse for Dusen Dusen backpacks emblazoned with Snips!

All in all an excellent Labor Day weekend filled with Blue Bonnet friggin' chilies which must have made steam come out of my ears, Barby the ham (named for the grill, not the doll!), tasty mushroom frittatas filled with herbs from the garden, and a new "trough" for Em & I to marble in.

So Hurricane Irene effectively cancelled my photoshoot this past Saturday. Now it's been bumped back about two weeks. Ugh, I can't wait! I'm so excited to share this new collection!

In the meantime, I was perusing Totokealo over my cornflakes this morning and came across all this amazing new stuff from Aesa. I've never been a huge jewelry person and rarely ever wear any (eh, I'm a minimalist...). Lately though, I've been craving some bedazzlement and I could totally see any of these pieces breaking me in! I'm dying over those pearls....Sigh, well, a girl can wish...

That said, I've been working on a small jewelry collection myself! The pieces themselves are pretty much made. Now I just need to find the time to have them all cast. It'll hopefully be ready by the holidays along with some other fun projects I can't wait to share!

The Algonquin

Apologies for the sparse blogging these past couple of weeks! I've been in full on work mode putting together the FW collection. The shoot is scheduled for this Saturday so as of now it's serious crunch time!

This past weekend was a much needed break, however. The family came up for a wedding so we got to putter around the city all weekend. They were staying in midtown so we had a chance to explore a part of town I don't normally visit.

That said, looking for a place to grab a drink Saturday night, we stumbled across the Algonquin. Just about the classiest, old-timiest place I've come across. They even had a painting by one of my favorite illustrators, Natalie Ascencios! Perfect serendipity coming across that place.

The Smell of Fall

Fall is hands down my favorite season. And nothing says Fall to me like the smell of a wood burning fire.

Came across this campfire scented candle in Catbird this weekend. Although willpower reigned on that particular trip, I know I'll be back for a few of those puppies right soon!

While toodling around Williamsburg, Em & I also came across the new MCMC Fragrances at Bird. While not new, I picked up Hunter which totally smells like campfire to me. Can't wait for it to start feeling a bit more like Fall so I can start wearing it!

Marbling Class

Em & I took a silk marbling class over the weekend! Class itself wasn't the greatest (won't be mean and say where....), professor was pretty unprepared, we were missing a lot of necessary supplies, we weren't even allowed to mix colors (hence the slightly underwhelming palette above...)! Still, glad we learned how to marble though. :)

Thoughts

I've been thinking a lot lately about where I'm hoping to take my line. A mere semester away from finishing my graduate degree (in a non-creative field), I've pretty much decided that although I'm glad to have gone ahead and gotten this degree, ultimately, I need to be doing something creative in order to be whole.

In order to truly make a living doing this, there are things that are going to have to change. Prices will unfortunately have to increase (the wonders of learning to properly cost...) and I will have to become much more savvy on the business end of things all around.

That said, I've been wondering whether to keep my line handmade or to eventually begin having the garments manufactured (albeit locally). Having things manufactured, it would be so nice to have more time to devote to the creative end of things rather than devoting most of my time to production. I can certainly see that there are extreme + and - to both solutions, however. As of now, my hands are completely up in the air. I'm completely on the fence.

I'd absolutely love to hear everyone's thoughts on this. Do you find yourselves gravitating to something because it is handmade or is the fact that something is handmade simply the icing on the cake??

Learning to marble paper and silk is something I've been dying to learn how to do for a long time. Maybe this is the summer it happens?

What do you all think about marbled fabrics - cool or totally cheesy (I kinda think of ladies decked out in jewelry made of friendly plastic but that isn't stopping me!)???!

Jed's old band the Couriers had a reunion show the other night at the Lovin' Cup Cafe in Williamsburg. What I especially enjoyed - aside from the fun trip down memory lane and seeing all the old friends who even trekked out from as far Jersey for the show - was seeing the guys play underneath the awesome light installation that their singer Adam created. The Lovin' Cup Cafe bought it from him several years ago and it's glorifying their stage permanently ever since.
